🐦 He’s the biggest woodpecker in France ! And I had the chance to see one close to my home✨
🌲🌳🪵 He lives in deciduous and coniferous forests, as long as there are old trees and dead trees…
🐜🪳 In his diet, we mainly find xylophagous insects and larvae (sometimes even only ants), but he can occasionally eat fruits, seeds, and even nestlings from other birds
🔴 The species is threatened by a bad forest management removing old or dead trees -without which he can’t survive- and by global warming
